July 2005 -- America Online uses The Calendar Planner built by
Reel Logix to plan and schedule global feeds for the Live 8 concert
featuring shows in 10 cities on four continents with 150 artists
participating.
Millions gathered at concert venues in the United Kingdom, United
States, Germany, France, Canada, Japan, Russian Federation, and South
Africa on Saturday, July 2 for a massive musical effort to focus
attention on global poverty.
Fans were treated to some indelible musical moments, from Pink
Floyd's reunion to Paul McCartney playing with U2 to Jay-Z jamming
with Linkin Park. A television audience, estimated to be in the
hundreds of millions worldwide watched as the artists performed
and expressed their concern about lives being lost on the African
continent. A final Live 8 concert was held on July 6, 2005 in
Edinburgh, Scotland
These "Live 8" concerts were named after and designed to pressure
the members of the Group of Eight, the world's wealthiest nations
gathering in Gleneagles, to place on the forefront of their meetings
